yeah it's honest. I like that. but the assumptions about what it's like to be white, those are incorrect and therefore untrue. except as an honest admission of what you think it must be like.
don't mind my quibble actually--your blog and the art here are excellent. found you by accident looking up "telegeny" and your art was the second google result. yay for google then huh, but only rarely.
yeah, I "disagreed" with the 3rd page of 1988, 5th and 6th frames. but only because it's the same sort of racial stereotyping that you appear to be complaining about elsewhere in the blog. oh wait, I forgot the rule huh: only white people can be racist.
Perhaps it is a stereotype, but that doesn't mean that it is inherently false. The free dictionarys first entry under "stereotype" is: 1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image. Clean-cut rich white kids have everything handed to them. Including sex, relationships and a built-in support system.
It was interesting that you extrapolated "all white people" when I mentioned "white with a few bucks" and pictured fraternity/sorority types.
again, let me repeat that I generally like your work here on this blog. I'm not one who needs dictionary definitions and I'm honestly not commenting here to spar with you about your artistic choices. as a punk rocker myself (since 1978) I believe in your right to express yourself however you choose to. I've just personally grown weary of a sort of liberal hypocrisy I see among my fellow travelers where *any* sort of stereotyping of what are known (for some reason) as minorities is indicative of a desire to bring back the bad old days and *all* sorts of stereotyping of whites and males is considered to be acceptable if not de riguer. I'm an egalitarian across the board and I consider all men to be my brothers and all women to be my sisters but there is a certain attitude within identity politics that seems to be trying its hardest to drive off my support for equal rights with a built-in double standard about how we're allowed to see and refer to those who are "other" than us. I have lived as a white minority in Los Angeles neighborhoods for decades now and am frankly tired of being told by the Latinos here (that's 2/3 of our 11 million population btw) that I'm oppressing them. that my inherited whiteness is somehow functional in their perceived second-class status. my whiteness is obviously a far greater problem in the socio-economic big picture than say, for example, the fact that the Latino population is growing by leaps and bounds with impoverished immigrants. I've spent enough time as the only white face on the bus (or in the holding cell, or in the nightclub or restaurant) to know that being the odd man out by race isn't always a product of me being conspired against. and I speak out equally against people using stereotypes (that as you say often have roots in reality), whether it's in reference to "white" privilege or "black" criminality. my feminist friends too--I frequently have to remind them that when they think their war is against men or masculinity en toto, they've already lost my vote. when they start up about the patriarchal death culture or whatever I ask if they've ever seen or heard of a father or husband making huge sacrifices for the women he loves. and clean-cut rich kids of *all* races all have a lot of things handed to them. saying it's a uniquely white thing is silly, particularly in light of your admission that your mother wants you to be with a black woman. what's not racist about that? and as far as the idea that I was extrapolating anything just go back and reread your line about white guys getting dates "just because" they're white. I'm a proud race traitor myself (with a kid to prove it) and from what I've seen (and heard from my male black friends) is that nobody gets more racially-curious pussy than the African American. and the more power to you for it but don't be complaining about the boring white girls who never caught a single case of jungle fever.
Your works stands on truth and I will not deny YOUR truth so as not to negate your work. Its nice to appreciate ones work but it shouldn't have to dissolve into another's ideals.
Well, anonymous, it's not going to really matter what I say because it seems like you're not getting it. I understand identity politics and don't desire to play them. If you read any of my other stuff you will see that I play no favorites when it comes to race. You may consider yourself an Egalitarian, but certain of your views are too conservative to mix well with Egalatarianism.
actually I've read a great deal of your stuff over the past few days and I'm pretty sure I get it because I saw a great deal of common ground mixed in with a few too many racist attacks on and generalizations about white people that are for me beyond the pale. to me these are examples of lazy or sloppy thinking mixed in with a lot of other brilliance. "oversimplifications" I'll call them, to borrow from your justifying definition of the word stereotype. if you think that makes me a conservative then I've either utterly failed to make my point or it's you that's just not getting it. but honestly I wish you the best and plan to continue reading you. even if now you're filed mentally under the-one-guy-who's-ever-called-me-a-conservative.
one last try: I have to argue sometimes with conservatives about the gang problem here in my neighborhood. almost all of the kids around here who shoot people are either brown or black. that makes it easy for whites to see the problem as an inherent issue to non-whites. they conflate the problem with the race of most of the actors. I also have to argue with my progressive friends about the (far greater imho) problem of the tea party. almost all of the tea partiers are white. that makes it easy for non-whites to see the problem as an inherent issue to whites. they conflate the problem with the race of most of the actors. am I still not making any sense?
also, not that I think it matters really here on the internet where identity is a sort of art form, but my name is steve humann. you may even have an old record or two of mine if we both like the same type of punk rock. not that I'm grasping for some sort of faded credibility here, I just don't want you to think I'm "hiding" behind the convenience of posting anonymously. I just don't think I even have a Blogger account. again, I like your blog and if I was still on Facebuckdich I'd be sharing your shit, particularly the art.

Your workis honest and true. Thank you
I'm glad I finally found an audience for it!

I would argue that most of my ideas about white-people are pretty spot-on. Was there something in particular that you disagreed with?
Thanks for compliments. I'm going to have to google "telegeny" now. What a world.
